There are many opinions in the Basement Waterproofing industry, and most of those opinions are trying to guide you in the direction which best suits the contractors product.
We believe that there are two ways to achieve a Dry Basement
If your basement walls are for the most part straight, with a hairline crack or two and you are looking at a Basement Waterproofing repair, then you should consider an interior drain-tile replacement
Interior drain-tile replacement is the same material that is used on the exterior. It consist of a 4 inch diameter perforated drain-tile, wall drainage system, vapor barrier, #57 washed gravel backfill and new concrete cap.
The interior drain-tile when installed properly, are not exposed to the elements that block their exterior counterpart. Normal blockage of a footer-tile is caused by soil erosion, tree roots or rodents. None of those elements are found on the interior side of the footing.
Another advantage to the interior drain-tile system is the Warranty. All of our interior installations offer a "Life of the Structure" warranty
The normal installation of an interior drain-tile system is usually one third to half of the price to the exterior drain-tile replacement.
Moderate to Sever structural issues?
If your basement is taking on water and you have moderate to sever structural issues, then you may consider an exterior approach which would require a Full Excavation (not an upper level french drain as sold by some competitors). Once the soil is removed from the foundation the wall surface will be cleaned and prepped and allowed to dry. New drain-tile will be installed and will normally terminate to a gravity fed drain or sump pump system.
Putting it back together: Once the new drainage system is installed, the wall will be treated with a weather-proof material to resist moisture. The backfill consist of #57 washed gravel and soil cap.
If the wall had some structural integrity issues, those would have to be addressed prior to backfill. There are various methods of structural repair.The structural repairs on basement walls normally fall into one of these three categories.
